Tip-of-the-Day : Submit your jobs to SimplyHired and Indeed

    Author: Drew
Subject: Submit your jobs to SimplyHired and Indeed
Posted: Jan/27/10 at 2:12pm

SimplyHired and Indeedare "job aggregators". They serve as one-stop shopping search enginesfor job seekers by scouring the web for job postings and combining themin a single searchable index. These services may already be finding andindexing your jobs, but you can improve the accuracy and tracking ofthis behavior by deliberately submitting a 'feed' of your jobs to theirservice.

When you submit a feed to SimplyHired or Indeed, you are basicallyproviding them with an alternate way to search your PCRecruiter WebExtensions. Any job that is listed on your web extensions will beavailable to their system to index and display. Their system willupdate based on the content of your feed once daily, removing anyclosed jobs and adding any new ones. If you are not using the PCRecruiter Web Extensions, you cannot submit your jobs to any third-party websites or posting engines.

When an applicant follows an 'apply' link from within one of thesefeeds and adds their name to your database, you will find a customfield called "Referrer" on their name record (under the Details button,if it hasn't been placed into your custom Name record layout). The word"Indeed" or "SimplyHired" will be placed into that field, signifyingthe site which that applicant found the link through. You may also see"Referrer" data from other sites, if PCRecruiter is able to determinethe source of that applicant when they apply.

Configuring:

An administrator account is required.

Open SYSTEM >> (1) Console >> (2) Candidate and Employer Registration Links

Click Go for the selected database.

Click the Configure link for either the Simply Hired RSS Feed or the Indeed RSS Feed.

Inthe window that pops up, the first section of fields are the onesrequired by that service. If any of the required fields are ones whichyou have opted not to display on your web extensions (such as DatePosted or Position ID), you may need to click in that field and choosean alternate PCRecruiter field to submit in place of that data. Theremust be a field submitted for each of the required fiels, however, orthe service will reject the feed as invalid.

Youmay also click in the additional fields to include other data. Rememberto click and then choose from the pulldown of database fields, ratherthan manually typing into the box.

Click Save when you have configured the fields to your liking.

		  Submitting:

Becausethese aggregator services are going to be reading your feedautomatically each day, you do not need to "export" or "push" each jobto them. You only need to provide the feed information to them once. After you have submitted the feed, their system will check and indexthe jobs found in it until you contact them and ask for them to stop,or until you re-name the database (which would alter the URL of the jobboard and break the link you've given them.)

Open SYSTEM >> (1) Console >> (2) Candidate and Employer Registration Links

Click Go for the selected database.

Click the Configure link for either the Simply Hired RSS Feed or the Indeed RSS Feed.

Scroll down to the bottom of the box, highlight the entire RSS Feed URL, and copy it.

Goto the submission page at the appropriate website and paste the feedwhere indicated. As of early 2010, these submission forms are locatedat:

Indeed Submission: https://ads.indeed.com/includejobs

SimplyHired Submission: http://www.simplyhired.com/a/add-jobs/feed

Edited by Drew - Jan/27/10 at 2:13pm

Tip-of-the-Day : Tweet your jobs with Twitterfeed

    Author: Drew
Subject: Tweet your jobs with Twitterfeed
Posted: Dec/10/09 at 6:20pm

Twitter.com is becoming a popular way to get the word out about allsorts of things, and many of our clients using the PCRecruiter Web Extensions have asked how they can'tweet' their job postings. Of course, the 140 character limit on Twitter poses aproblem for posting any detailed description, but you can get the jobtitle and a link out there if you use a handy third-party web utilitycalled "Twitterfeed". This tip will explain how it's done.

Before you begin, make sure you've got your web extensions enabledand haveyour job and applicant screens set up the way you want them. You mayalso want to look into using our HTML Wrapper feature if your job boardis currently inside of a scrolling frame on your website, as any joblinks you 'tweet' will only direct people to the un-branded PCRecruitercontent and not your web page. If you aren't sure whether you've gotthe Web Extensions enabledor how to make changes to them, check with your PCRecruiter trainer orconsultant before initiating any external use of your job links.

To get your job board's RSS feed:

Go to your candidate job search page and run a 'blank search' so that you get a list of all the jobs in your job board.

Atthe bottom of the results, there's an orange "RSS" button. Right-clickon it and choose "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location" (depending onyour browser).

Open up Notepad or some other document, andpaste in the link you just copied. It should look something like this:
http://www.pcrecruiter.net/pcrbin/reg5.exe?username=PUBLIC&p2=&action=SEARCH&p4=0&p5=0&p6=0&p7=0&p8=0&p9=0&pcr-id=1Y1J57lXCIqRSdo01BtYns8gSe2BqrUbTvIT2TyoI%2fZaTzenPtO2W%0d%0a6gRwzRYbTZlXhx0O&rss=Y&feedid=601924910862813

The"feedid" number at the end of that address is a unique ID generated foreach search, and will only function once per day (which prevents RSSreaders from flooding the database with search requests). However, ifyou shorten that number to anything 99 or less, the link will returnthat number of jobs. So for example, an RSS link endingwith &feedid=20 will always return the top 20 jobs, based on howrecently they were posted. Edit the feedid number at the end of your copied URL and then put thelink aside for the moment.

To add the feed to Twitter:

Go to http://twitterfeed.com/ and sign up for an account (it's free).

Inyour Twitterfeed dashboard, set up a new feed. You'll start byauthenticating your Twitter login info (which lets Twitterfeed sendinfo to your Twitter account).

Enter a Feed Name (ex. 'Bob's Jobs').

Enter the RSS Feed URL - this is the link you got a moment ago, with the manually lowered 'feedid' number.

Click'Advanced Settings' to expand the lower portion of the screen. You canset the majority of these fields as you please. We recommend at minimum:

Set the 'Post Content' to 'title' - since the description would be truncated, the title is probably enough.

Check 'Post Link' - if you opt not to post the actual job link, you'll want to at least include your website address in the 'Post Prefix' so people can go there to search and apply.

Set the 'Post Sorting' to 'GUID'

Include #jobs in the 'Post Prefix' so that Twitter jobseekers can find your job more easily.

Click "Create Feed".

Edited by Drew - Dec/10/09 at 6:37pm
